Sales Director (healthcare and medical devices), Madrid (Spain)

Our client is a European leader in the medical devices area with strong and sustainable growth internationally. In order to reinforce the management team of its operations in the Iberica region we are looking for a senior Sales Director. The position is based in Madrid.
The Sales Director is responsible for leading the commercial team as well as energizing and boosting the commercial performance of the company for both the Spanish and the Portuguese markets.
He/she will create and execute the roadmap to achieve the expansion of the company’s existing product portfolio as well as new products, with a responsibility on both direct sales and indirect sales (through agents and/or distributors) as well as marketing.

Key responsibilities

The Commercial Director sets the commercial strategy, including developing short- and long-term business plans and manages the sales budget.
He/she develops and implements the strategic commercial plan, understanding the value drivers of the business and identifying commercial opportunities in order to grow revenue and market share.
He/she maintains and develops distribution networks with the aim of increasing sales volumes of existing products and expanding product lines.
He/she leads a team of field sales representatives and agents as well as develops commercial partnerships with key clients on the national level.
He/she selects, trains and motivates the sales force in sales techniques.
He/she negotiates and finalizes distribution contracts in line with the company objectives.
He/she ensures an effective control of commercial performance by utilizing key performance indicators, and takes any necessary action to ensure the achievement of commercial objectives.
He/she collaborates with internal departments to optimize regulatory, technical, and logistical elements involved in the launch and commercialization of products.
He/she develops and recommends product positioning and pricing strategies in order to maximize the commercial value of the company’s product portfolio.
He/she actively participates in the decision-making process that directly affects the profitability of the business.
He/she manages the commercial department’s operating budget.
He/she motivates and develops team members, ensuring that they achieve performance goals and liaise effectively with other functions across the business.

Required qualifications and skills

Bachelor’s degree in business administration or sales management.
10 years of solid and successful commercial experience, with a track record in building a sustainable commercial structure and a solid experience in leading, developing and coaching commercial teams.
Proven ability to lead, develop, coach, engage and inspire high performing and diverse teams.
Extensive healthcare or related pharma/OTC experience in leading direct and indirect sales.
Strong business acumen and problem solving skills.
Superior negotiation skills. Excellent project management and time management abilities.
Aptitude to prepare complex and accurate business plans, budgets, and forecasts.
Ability to develop strategic, profitable, and collaborative relationships and alliances with customers.
Excellent presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
Self-motivated, energetic, flexible, dedicated, and efficient.
Good command of English language
Microsoft Office Suite.
