Chief Financial Officer (Bratislava, Slovakia)

Our client is one of the strongest players in the utility sector with a strong presence across Central and Eastern Europe. In order to reinforce the management team of its Slovak operations we are looking for its Chief Financial Officer. The position is based in Bratislava.

The Chief Financial Officer acts as the company’s most senior finance representative in Slovakia, being responsible for the following areas:

  • accounting and taxes,
  • controlling,
  • treasury and cash management,
  • internal audit.

Your responsibilities

Management

Experience in guiding four finance departments and leading their department heads (accounting and taxes, controlling, treasury and cash management, internal audit),
Managing, evaluating and motivating employees of the whole financial department, ensuring professional training of all employees and the development of their knowledge in accordance with their workload and in accordance with the budget,
Responsibility for the personnel management of employees in accordance with the policy of the group, conducting annual appraisal interviews of managers and employees.
Active participation in the executive management team.

Finance

Responsibility for financial reporting (long-term plans, project planning, status of implementation), analyzing the development and proposing recommendations for the company’s management and for shareholders,

Responsibility for evaluating the fulfillment of the company objectives, setting indicators and explaining deviations from the plan and the previous year to the company’s management,

Responsibility for monitoring legislative changes and their implementation,

Responsibility for providing legal advice on strategic matters that may significantly affect the company’s financial results,

Responsibility for ensuring strategic planning in the field of information technology based on the strategic goals of the company.

Accounting

Responsibility for the accuracy of all financial and accounting data up to the validation of the statutory financial statements,
Responsibility for the supervision of the monthly reports, quarterly forecasts and annual budgets,
Responsibility for consolidated reporting,
Responsibility for statutory audits and tax returns, maintaining contacts with relevant audit, tax, accounting authorities and financial institutions.

Controlling

Ensuring the reporting to the regional and group headquarters in terms of management accounting and statutory packages according to group policies,
Supervising the entire budget process (preparation, validation and monitoring) jointly with the regional management.
Monitoring and permanently improving the management tools, the company procedures and information systems.

Cash management

Responsibility for maintaining adequate working capital and operating cash-flow,
Responsibility for ensuring adequate financing,
Managing relationships with banks (negotiation and implementation of all financing instruments).

Your profile

You are fluent in Slovak language (or Czech) and English. You are a qualified finance/controlling manager/director – ideally with recognized international finance qualifications – and a strong knowledge of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).

You offer a master’s degree in finance and/or economics and you can demonstrate a professional experience of five to ten years in the management of accounting, controlling, revenue management, reporting and treasury/cash management teams.

You offer controlling thinking beyond the pure accounting skills as well as excellent organization skills and a strong capacity to set-up priorities, work under pressure and with tight deadlines.

You present strong communication skills on both verbal and written mode and on all hierarchical levels (ideally in matrix organizations) as well as excellent analytical skills and problem solving ability, attention to details.
